Privacy

In short

No account, no advertising, and no cookie of our own. Nothing about you is sold or shared. NYC Sound is made by realname studio in New York.

What the site keeps

Visits. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts the pages that are opened: the page, the site you came from, the kind of browser and device, and the country. It sets no cookie, stores nothing in your browser and does not identify you.

The host’s logs. Cloudflare, which serves the site, handles every request, including your IP address, to deliver the pages and keep out abuse. The site’s own logs cover only the corrections form, and are kept for 3 days.

Corrections. If you suggest a correction on an artist’s card, we keep which artist, what should change and the link you give, for a person to review. It is kept with Cloudflare until it is filed as an issue in the site’s private repository on GitHub, usually within six hours, and for 30 days at most; from then on it is kept only as that issue. The form asks for no name and no email address.

The site stores nothing in your browser: no cookie, and nothing in its local storage.

What the services the map draws on can see

Parts of the map are loaded from other services, which see your IP address and browser as any website does, under their own privacy policies: the streets from OpenFreeMap; biographies and photos from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, run by the Wikimedia Foundation; and, when an artist’s card opens, Spotify’s player, which may set its own cookies.

Putting on a neighborhood plays its artists in the same player, one after another, run by Spotify’s own code in a page of this site that keeps nothing about you. That page is at an address of its own, sound-booth.realnamestudio.com, kept apart from the map: Spotify’s code there cannot see the map or use the location you let the map have. At most it could ask for your location itself, and your browser would say sound-booth.realnamestudio.com is asking. Spotify sees which artists’ players are loaded, as it does for a card.

Near me

Near me asks your browser for your location when you press it, and only then: once, without following you. It is used on your device to work out what is near you, and it stays there. It is not put in the page’s address or its history, not sent to us or anyone else, the analytics included, and not stored in your browser. Your browser remembers whether you allowed it, under its own settings.

As for any place you look at on the map, the streets around you are then loaded from OpenFreeMap, and the artists’ photos from Wikimedia Commons.

My block makes a picture of the neighborhood you are in, on your device. It names the neighborhood, never where you are in it, and it is not uploaded or kept: it goes only where you share or save it.

Shows and tickets

The shows on the map and on artists’ cards come from Ticketmaster. Their ticket links lead to Ticketmaster’s site, where tickets are sold under its own privacy policy.
